nice rig! i also got the empress trems & diamond ml (v1). how do you like your empress super delay? you can also check out my gear @ http://odnalor.org/wp/my-gear-page. no big pix of the board yet though.

I love the Super Delay! And not just saying that (because you both see I have a Diamond Memory Lane too!) Here’s why I opted for the Super Delay in addition to the ML (Mem Lane)….

While I love the unique analog sound of the ML there are obvious limitations with an analog delay pedal that I’m sure you’re aware of.. Primarily the fact that delay time is limited. That being said, I found myself in numerous live scenarios where I needed a tad longer delay time. I also wanted a pedal that could store presets (another limitation of analog). With that said I went through a few different pedals in search of the following criteria.

    1. Longer delay time (which can be found in ANY digital delay)
    2. Ability to store presets
    3. True bypass (if figure the rest of my board has it, why not continue the trend)

I tried the T-Rex Replica, but after being used to the ML I just couldn’t get used to the sound. I also tried the TC Electronic Nova Delay but was NOT impressed either. Then I heard that Empress was going to be releasing a delay pedal so I got on the pre-order list having only heard some of the sound clips. I have been super impressed with their Tremolo and figured it was worth taking a chance and pre-ordering it.

I have NOT been disappointed by the Empress Super Delay! Not only does it meet the three criteria above, it also sounds GREAT (go figure).. And as an added bonus, it does some pretty interesting sounds too (some weird obscure tones as well as a built-in looper).

I’ll try and do a video review soon and when I do I’ll email you guys.

    Hey welcome!
Btw, how is the keeley katana? Seemed a bit overrated IMHO, but want to know from someone who uses it. You like it? Is it worth it?
I use a Electro Harmonix Line boost LPB1. Its awesome!

Welcome and check my blog :) lespaulplayerdoctor.wordpress.com

my next post is on boosts, so your reply about the keeley will probably be in it!

    @ Larry Plaxco:

Larry, personally I love the Katana but I don’t have a whole lot of experience in comparing and rating boost pedals. The only other one I’ve played is the other one I own (the Diamond Boost EQ). Both serve different purposes on my board. I use the Katana as a clean (sometimes a touch of ‘dirt’) boost and the Diamond as a mid boost within my dirty loop. As far as it being “worth it?” Hmmm, like I said, I love the tone of the pedal when you start using it to overdrive the amp. Is it worth $225? I guess you’d have to play one yourself and determine that. Is it worth it to me, yea I’d have to say so.

If you haven’t seen this video review on the Katana, check it out. It shows just how versatile the pedal is from a simple clean boost to a full blown amp over-driving tool.

I haven’t checked out many EH pedals yet.. I’ll have to play a few next time I’m in their presence. I just subscribed to your blog, so I’ll be watching for your boost post.

i love the sound of diamond ml and i don’t think i’ll ever replace it. i’m looking for another supplement for it (read: gas). the empress sd seems to really fit the bill as you have attested to. price is kinda steep for a secondary delay though. please post some review/videos, i might be swayed ;)
