Here’s my contribution for the 25th day of the 40 Day Fast. Don’t forget Euphrony’s post today, My Turn - The Face of Death.
A “conversation” I had on Twitter that got me thinking. The first two lines went like this…
JaredStill: We saw an accident after Church today. Worst I’ve ever seen. 5 people died, including 3 children. so sick over it
djByron: @jaredstill I’ve personally witnessed two similar scenarios over the past year or so and know the feeling… All one can do is pray.
The two scenarios I mentioned above included a guy dying right outside my front door in a motorcycle accident and a 15 yr old kid who was critically injured by an oncoming vehicle while riding his bicycle. In both instances I witnessed human suffering like I had never before. This was something new. Something that had never made it’s way inside of my comfortable “bubble”. The screams I heard, the feeling of helplessness, the confusion, and an unrest in my soul that I could never translate to you in words. These will be two days that haunt my thoughts forever.
What does this have to do with the 40-Day-Fast and awareness? Before the two experiences I mentioned above, I had no idea that suffering like this existed. Like it or not, we’ve all become somewhat desensitized by Hollywood and this amazing land of plenty that we live in. It wasn’t until God gave me a wake up call like this that I’ve started to think…
If suffering like this can happen outside of my front door at any moment, where else is it happening as we sit inside our air-conditioned living rooms this Summer of 2008?
So today as I fast and pray I don’t bring to you a specific cause per-say. But rather I pray that God would lay a specific global cause to support on my heart. Twenty five days now into this blogger fast I’ve seen so many amazing organizations and causes to support. I would pray that those of you reading this post who have not decided to jump aboard would do so.
As of now I definitely leaning towards Compassion International or World Vision because it’s easy to see the fruit of your giving reflected in the life of specific children. But we’ll see what the next 15 days hold in prayer.

There are certainly so many needs in the world that it can seem overwhelming. God doesn’t ask us to help the whole world, just to do whatever we can. Thanks for opening your heart. I will pray for you and your journey.

Wow. Most of us have never come face to face with suffering - real suffering. I’ll be praying for you as you listen to God’s leading toward a cause.
