Youth, Technology and the Future in Perspective

Julia Roy posted an entry a couple weeks ago and it got me thinking… It’s hard to believe that only a few years ago we were in high school and the world was technologically archaic compared with 2008 (sadly I still think 15 years is a few). Scary almost… If we’ve went from word processors to online apps, from snail-mail to email, pagers to SMS and Atari to 360 in less than 20 years! So what will the next 20 hold?
Now having a three year old son and another one on the way I can’t help but wonder what changes they’ll see from their youth to adult-hood. For us it was finding pay phones to using cell phones. What will the evolution of communication/technology hold as they mature? Will they’ll be saying “remember when we used to use cell phones back in the day!” Maybe a cell phone isn’t the best example as I’m sure they’ll be around ,but they’ll probably be as powerful as our current desktop screamers (or better). You get the idea.. The way technology is progressing it’s hard to comprehend what life will be like when my boys are 18. The trick will be to keep everything in perspective as gadgets continue to make our lives easy and fun!
You can always take it a step further… What’s God’s take on all of this? Would Jesus carry an iPhone or a Blackberry? Would he use Technology to advance the Gospel? Just thinking.
