Youth, Technology and the Future in Perspective

Julia Roy posted an entry a couple weeks ago and it got me thinking… It’s hard to believe that only a few years ago we were in high school and the world was technologically archaic compared with 2008 (sadly I still think 15 years is a few). Scary almost… If we’ve went from word processors to online apps, from snail-mail to email, pagers to SMS and Atari to 360 in less than 20 years! So what will the next 20 hold?

Now having a three year old son and another one on the way I can’t help but wonder what changes they’ll see from their youth to adult-hood. For us it was finding pay phones to using cell phones. What will the evolution of communication/technology hold as they mature? Will they’ll be saying “remember when we used to use cell phones back in the day!” Maybe a cell phone isn’t the best example as I’m sure they’ll be around ,but they’ll probably be as powerful as our current desktop screamers (or better). You get the idea.. The way technology is progressing it’s hard to comprehend what life will be like when my boys are 18. The trick will be to keep everything in perspective as gadgets continue to make our lives easy and fun!

You can always take it a step further… What’s God’s take on all of this? Would Jesus carry an iPhone or a Blackberry? Would he use Technology to advance the Gospel? Just thinking.

I’m not sure that I can say much considering I work for the Tech Dept at my church. So that makes me a little biased towards “of course technology can further the gospel”

Since you brought it up, our tech blog – http://voxpopnetwork.com/codex/

Yea.. I agree regarding the use of tech inside the church. The times be a changin’ and we can’t expect people to step back in time when they enter the doors of our churches. I think Jesus would agree as he was very “cutting edge” even in his day.

Yea, he was on the cutting edge, but for sure technology is advancing at a ever faster rate BK & I were just talking about it this am… It will be amazing to see what the future holds for our kiddos…
